Debra
Hill's magical conceptual paintings weave metaphor and whimsey
into a tapestry of vibrant color. Born in Sydney, Australia,
Debra acquired her art education at Sydney University and
Paddington Art School. She subsequently took to travelling
seeking life experience from different cultures, settling
for a time in Mexico where the colorful culture brought her
imagination to life. Since then her paintings have been infused
with an almost carnival quality. Executed in oils, her paintings
exhibit her skill as both an accomplished painter as well
as a designer.
"For
me the joy pf painting is creating colorful new worlds narrating
a fantastical 'micro' moment in life. A moment that passes
so fast that one barely notices the thought, the action or
the outcome. I capture on canvas that moment and with lyrical
metaphor, expand that moment for eternity."
Since
taking up residence in New York in 1994 her work has found
its way into the spotlight as the art used for Earth Day 1995,
along with Peter Max. Also as a featured artist in the new
digital arts magazine "Digitas". A brief return
to Austrailia in 1997 to exhibit the 150th Anniversary Art
Show Oz circus resulted in a feature article in the major
Sydney paper "The Daily Telegraph". Debra has exhibited
her work in numerous group and solo shows both here and in
Austrailia. |
